Pune: 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks convict Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged till death at 7.30 am in Pune’s Yervada Jail on Wednesday.
Maharashtra’s Home Minister RR Patil has confirmed the execution.
“Today morning at 7.30 am terrorist Ajmal Kasab was hanged. At this moment we remember the martyrs,” Patil said. He said that Kasab was hanged after following due legal procedure.
Doctors present in the jail have confirmed that Ajmal Kasab is dead.
Kasab’s mercy plea was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on November 8. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that Kasab was shifted to Yervada Jail from Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai two days back.
The government, rightly, maintained outmost secrecy over its plans considering the sensitivity of the issue.
Kasab was one of the 10 Pakistani terrorists who had sneaked into Mumbai on November 26, 2008 and targeted multiple locations in the city. While nine of the terrorists were shot dead, Kasab was captured alive.
The deadly terror attack had led to the death of 166 innocents.
