#ArvindKejriwal: Sartorially-challenged he may be but new Delhi CM can laugh at himself

Delhi’s new Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal comes across as dour and sartorially-challenged – ‘Mufflerman’ is one supporter’s terrific if futile effort at lending him an “edge” whilst trying to explain away that ubiquitous shawl he keeps wrapped around his head.

But, it turns out, he’s got a sense of humour.

A day before his Aam Aadmi Party swept to victory in the Delhi elections, Mr Kejriwal appeared in a parody of one of the most-watched and most grating news programs on Indian TV – ‘Frankly Speaking with Arnab Goswami’.

The 11-minute video by satirical YouTube channel The Viral Fever features comic Biswapati Sarkar as Goswami, the loud-mouthed Times Now TV anchor and is titled ‘Barely Speaking with Arnub’ – an allusion to Goswami’s tendency to continuously talk over his guests.

The video begins with a Muffler-clad Kejriwal giggling and expressing his regret at appearing on the show before he is grilled about his fashion sense and is asked to swear on his “mummy” that he’s never made a corrupt payment in his life.

He’s also questioned about his ‘Love Marriage’ to wife Sunita and the safety of women in Delhi.

Mr Kejriwal is later joined by ‘Arjun Kejriwal’, the leader of the ‘Bollywood Aam Aadmi Party’.

The video is fast racking up hits on YouTube, especially since Mr Kejriwal’s win with more than two million views and counting.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader Tweeted the video from his personal account, calling on people to have a bit of a laugh – something that is in short supply in political discourse in the country.

“Barely Speaking With Arnub Goswami” is the latest video by The Viral Fever, a four-year-old satire channel founded by a group of Indian Institute of Technology graduates.

Previous guests grilled by Sarkar include Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan.
