The entire crew of a Pakistan International Airlines flight from London were detained in Lahore on Sunday after customs officials discovered a stash of iPhone 6 handsets.
The crew, from flight PK-758 from London, were held by customs and told that the rules governing passengers also applied to crew members.
Customs officials say that they had recovered more than £5000 in undeclared currency as well as 21 sets of the latest iPhone which went on sale in London late last week.
The crew’s arrest sparked protest by other PIA crews, including attendants on a Manchester-bound flight which was delayed for a number of hours as the crew demonstrated against their colleague’s detention.
According to reports, the PK-758 crew, had attended the iPhone 6 launch at a Central London Apple store to buy the handsets.
The phone costs up to £699 in the UK but is significantly higher in Pakistan when import duties are added on.
