#BindingPeople: New kid on the block &TV gets off to roaring start in UK

Indian TV giant Zee TV’s attempt at free-to-air in the UK got off to a cracking start with the official launch of its new General Entertainment Channel ‘&TV’.

The channel’s remit is to bind people through various different ideologies and philosophies and its content certainly reflects that.

Its’ contemporary and contextual original programming has already been a hit with viewers.

The fictional and factual programming includes the spectacular Razia Sultan, which tells the story of the 13th Century princess who became the first woman emperor to rule Delhi.

The period epic is followed by ‘Bhaghyalakshmi’ (weeknights at 7.30 pm), the story of an ambitious young girl who aspires to chase her dreams and at the same time strike a balance with family – the template for the modern Indian woman.

There’s plenty of charm factor in ‘Gangaa’ about a feisty young girl with a limitless zest for life that is already finagling her way into millions of hearts.

Comedy comes in the form of ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!’ – a laugh-out-loud sitcom about two neighbouring couples with perfectly timed aspirations, romantic and otherwise.

The highlight of the line-up of course is the much talked-about return to TV of the King himself – Shah Rukh Khan.  The SRK-hosted ‘India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun’ is appropriately enough the channel’s current flagship.

Rounding off the weekday line up is the fabulous ‘Begusarai’, a quirky town in rural Bihar with plenty of dark secrets.

The channel also has two unique weekend shows, ‘Killer Karaoke – Atka Toh Latkah’, a sing-along show with a twist and ‘Tujhse Naaraz Nahi Zindagi’, an inspiration show built around everyday issues faced by ordinary people.

“We are thrilled to launch the contemporary channel &TV in the UK.  It has been gaining immense popularity in India and we are confident that it will be a huge success here as well”, said Parul Goel, Zee Network Europe Deputy Head.

“The channel promises multi-dimensional content and a strong line-up of entertainment and reality shows, and we are certain that the audience will enjoy seeing this new entertainment channel, which truly defines A Celebration of Life.”
