A galaxy of international cricket stars have been confirmed to take part in a special T20 match forming part of the Benefit Year of Essex and England all-rounder Ravi Bopara.
An All Stars XI captained by Bopara will take on Essex Eagles in the floodlit game at Bopara’s home county ground Chelmsford on 04 June.
The All Stars XI features some of the finest and most explosive batsman in the world, including Sri Lankan stalwarts Kumar Sangakkara – currently enjoying a superb season for Surrey – and Mahela Jayawardena; explosive Windies opener Chris Gayle; Pakistani sensation Shahid ‘Boom Boom’ Afridi, and Bopara’s fellow England all-rounder Moeen Ali.
The team will square up against one of the best teams in England’s T20 Blast.
Among the Eagles’ squad is Dutch all-rounder Ryan Ten Doeschate, Kiwi southpaws Hamish Rutherford and Jesse Ryder, England international James Foster and Australian express Shaun Tait.
The match is one of a slew of events planned for Bopara’s Benefit Year.
The East London-born 30-year-old has been part of the Essex set up for thirteen years after signing his first professional contract with the county way back in 2002.
Proceeds from the Benefit Year will go towards a number of charitable initiatives, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, Lord’s Taverners, the Indian Ocean Disaster Relief and the Essex County & Community Trust.
