‘Kai Po Che’ director Abhishek Kapoor has confirmed that Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif will appear in his next project, ‘Fitoor’, an adaptation of Dickens’ novel ‘Great Expectations’.
Kapur, 27, is the youngest brother of Siddarth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures which is producing the film.
Director Kapoor had reportedly been in talks with his ‘Kai Po Che’ star Sushant Singh Rajput for the male lead in Fitoor but eventually settled on the younger Kapur.
“As a filmmaker, I have always invested in new and emerging talent and with his talent and persona, Aditya is right up there,” Kapoor told IANS.
Kapur, who has had an excellent run in the last three years, appearing in the blockbuster hits ‘Aashiqui 2’ and ‘Yeh Jewaani Hai Deewani’, will play the role of Philip Pirrip or “Pip”, the narrator and protagonist of the seminal coming-of-age Victorian novel.
Kaif will play the wealthy Estella, who Pip pursues through the novel.
The pivotal and complex role of Miss Havisham, the rich spinster who becomes the impoverished Pip’s benefactor, is yet to be cast.
Veteran actress Sridevi was reportedly approached to play the part but refused as the character was “too negative”, according to reports.
