After months of speculation, actress Rani Mukerji has finally tied the knot with Aditya Chopra, the writer, director, producer and head of the venerable Yash Raj Film studios.
Film critic and industry analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji got married last night on 21st April in Italy. The wedding was a very small intimate affair.”
Mukerji, the star of such iconic Bollywood films as ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ ‘Saathiya’, ‘Chalte Chalte’ and ‘Black’, issued a statement to share the news and alluded to iconic director and her new husband’s late father Yash Chopra:”I would like to share the happiest day of my life with all my fans all over the world whose love and blessings have been part of my journey all these years.
“I know that all my well-wishers who have waited for this day will be really happy for me. It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us. The one person I missed terribly was Yash Uncle, but I know he was there with us in spirit and his love and blessings will always be with Adi and me. I have always believed in fairy-tales and with God’s grace my life has been exactly like one, and now as I enter the most important chapter of my life – the fairy-tale continues.”
According to reports, the nuptials in Italy were attended by filmmaker Karan Johar and close family and friends.
The couple have never confirmed or denied their romance and have gone to extraordinary lengths to hide their relationship, often taking pains to exit Mumbai airport separately after overseas visits.
Mukerji has however, been snapped at the Chopra household and is said to have become extremely close to the family matriarch Pamela Chopra, most notably taking on the responsibility of handling the funeral arrangements following Yash Chopra’s death in 2012.
Aditya was previously married to Payal Khanna who he divorced in 2009.
