The Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) awards remain synonymous with star power, breath-taking dance spectacles by Bollywood A-listers, global coverage, exotic locations, the occasional Hollywood appearance and, of course, those statues masquerading as film awards.
Above all, however, it is the fashion that often takes centre stage and this year’s event in Malaysia was no different.
As the French Riviera is to Cannes so Fashion is to IIFA.
Here’s my take on the ten Bollywood bombshells who electrified the green carpet.
Deepika Padukone mesmerised in a shimmery yet demure Sabyasachi fresh off the success of Piku and her yet-to-claim Woman of the Year award. Whilst everyone was raving about this creation, it was much of the same that we’ve come to expect of Sabya and therefore didn’t hit the top mark for me.
Bipasha Basu shone in a red Gauri and Nainika gown whose structured top perfectly balanced the flowing lines of the bottom half of the gown. However, the hair was too plain and had it been swept sideways it could really have set the gown off beautifully
Anushka Sharma dressed in a red-hot Gauri and Nainika number reminded us never to underestimate the power of red. The hair, make-up and minimalist look was a total winner.
Sonakshi Sinha standing statuesque in a Monisha Jaisingh, with sexy thigh-high slit exuded sultriness.
Malaika Arora Khan in her voluminous Marie Antoinette type gown struck gold in this Ashi Studio creation.
Shraddha Kapoor played it safe and cute in a black Mason gown.
Lisa Haydon, her hair in an up-do, opted for a Gaurav Gupta gown and looked every bit like a Greek Goddess.
Malaika Arora Khan again in a Georges Chakra. Can this woman do no wrong?! In an off-shoulder stunner, she looks ethereal in an up-do with black varnish that neatly rounds off the chic look.
Neha Dupia in P.E.L.L.A. manages to pull off this unconventional number with just the right amount of confidence and sassiness. A floral clutch would have added further oomph to the dress and compensated for those horrible gold stilletoes.
Saving the best for last is Woman of the Hour, Parineeti Chopra, who completely worked the green carpet. Having lost oodles of weight, she showed off her poise and glamour quotient in this black George Chakra gown…
…before knocking the ball out of the park in this ooh la la red Gaurav Gupta gown. Smoky eyes, wavy hair and red lips finished off the look.
