#GlitterBall: Casualty star Sunetra Sarkar joins ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ line-up

The BBC is really going to town in its efforts to ensure its programming reflects multi-cultural Britain.

Producers of the beeb’s Strictly Come Dancing’ today revealed that the relatively-unknown British-Indian actress Sunethra Sarkar will join this year’s line-up of the hit show.

Liverpool-born Sarkar, 41, is a working actress who’s appeared in myriad TV shows since getting into showbiz in 1988.

She’s best known for her work on the long-running BBC One medical drama ‘Casualty’, although she has appeared on ‘Doctor Who’, ‘No Angels’, ‘Holby City’, ‘Emmerdale’, ‘Brookside’ and a host of other productions.

She said: “I don’t quite know what I’ve let myself in for… I’m in total denial!

“But the chance to swap my stethoscope for sequins was just too tempting. I am very excited to be part of the Strictly team!”

Sarkar is the latest addition to this year’s Strictly line up which, thus far, features TOWIE star Mark Wright, ‘Blue’ singer Simon Webbe, former rugby player Thom Evans and Andy Murray’s powerhouse mom Judy Murray.

It’s a welcome return for British Asian talent on the much-loved show following the appearance of Jimi Mistry on the 2010 series.

Former England batsman Mark ‘Trouser Snake’ Ramprakash of course, famously won the coveted glitter ball trophy in 2006.
