#GoingPlaces: Irrfan Khan roped in for big screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s ‘Inferno’

The Hollywood offers are coming thick and fast, it appears, for acclaimed ‘The Lunchbox’ star Irrfan Khan.

After wrapping up on the sets of Steven Spielberg’s $150 million blockbuster Jurrasic World, Khan 48, has been drafted in for the big-screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s ‘Inferno’ which stars Tom Hanks.

The film is the latest of Brown’s mystery thrillers featuring reluctant Harvard University symbologist Robert Langdon (Hanks).

Irrfan’s role in the film is yet to be revealed.

Inferno takes place after the previous Langdon films and picks up with the professor waking up in a hospital one morning in Florence, Italy.

Langdon has no memory of the previous few days and must tap into his unique deduction skills to determine how a brilliantly conceived criminal plot is connected to Dante’s Inferno.

However, before Khan is seen in what is certain to be yet another perplexingly good Dan Brown romp,  he will appear on screens this summer as the flamboyant industrialist Simon Masrani in Jurrasic World.

Masrani is CEO of Masrani Global, the company that acquired and now runs Jurassic World.

Khan tells of his character: “I’m playing the park owner, a very flamboyant person. When the first Jurassic Park came out, I barely had the money to see it and now I’m playing a part.

“He’s trying to entertain the world with good intentions, but sometimes being flamboyant doesn’t mean having much wisdom.”

It’s the latest Hollywood weather in the copiously-decorated hat of India’s greatest global star as well as one of its most respected actors.  ‘Inferno’ follows a surfeit of critically acclaimed recent run of films for Irrfan following the likes of ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Qissa’ and ‘Haider’.

‘Inferno’ is slated for an October 2016 release.
