He has already won kudos for his star turns in several Hollywood flicks, including ‘Life of Pi’, ‘The Amazing Spider Man’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and the unforgettable ‘A Mighty Heart’.
Now, ‘The Lunchbox’ star Irrfan Khan – arguably the most successful Indian actor to cross-over to the West – is reportedly working on his biggest Hollywood project yet: the four instalment of the hugely successful ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise.
The film is titled ‘Jurassic World’ and is set for a June 2015 release.
Directed by American filmmaker Colin Trevorrow, ‘Jurassic World’ has been described as a much-needed 3D reboot of the franchise and harks back to the best work of Steven Spielberg, the genius who created the Dinosaur meltdown genre.
The film features an all-new cast and is set in Hawaii and is said to blend the best elements of Spielberg’s freakishly scary 1993 original and his other seminal scary picture ‘Jaws’.
Irrfan’s role, according to the actor, is set to be a “pivotal” one.
“At the moment all I can tell you on record is that it’s a pivotal role. I am very excited about the project. It’s the second American global franchise after Spiderman that I am part of”, the actor said.
‘Jurassic World’ will be yet another notch on Irrfan’s well-worn bed post.
The 47-year-old continues to earn plaudits for his outstanding work in Ritesh Batra’s ‘The Lunchbox’ and will be shuttling between the US and India filming for ‘Jurassic World’ as well as Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ which also stars Amitabh Bachchan.
It’s the first time that Bollywood’s much-loved elder statesman and India’s finest character actor have shared the screen and Irrfan provided a tantalizing glimpse into what audiences can expect.
“‘Piku’ is one of the best scripts I’ve been offered. Bachchan saab gets to do a completely new character. I’ve most of my scenes with him. It’s a very mellow down-to-earth slice-of-life drama like ‘The Lunchbox'”.
‘Piku’ also stars Deepika Padukone and provides a unique take on a father-daughter relationship and thus be a major climb-down from Sircar’s previous film, the disappointing ‘Madras Cafe’.
Irrfan will also soon be seen in ‘Kahaani’ director Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film starring starlet-of-the-moment Kangana Ranaut.
