TV executive Kavery Kalanithi has been revealed as the highest paid businesswoman in India with a 2012 pay packet of $10.3 million, according to Fortune magazine.
Kalanithi is the Executive Director of Sun TV Group, a media conglomerate based in Tamil Nadu. She is the wife of Kalanithi Maran, the chairman of Sun Group and one of the richest men in India.
While the Sun TV Group remains one of the most profitable media operations in Asia, Mrs Kalanithi’s pay package is down from $13.09 million in 2011.
Urvi A Piramal, the chairwoman of Mumbai-based commercial property major Peninsula Land, is a distant second on the list of highest paid female executives in India with a salary package $1.32 million.
The top 3 is rounded off by Preetha Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospital Enterprises, with an annual salary and bonus totalling $1.25 million.
Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, Chanda Kochar – 8th on the compensation list with an annual salary of $770,000 – was named by Fortune as the most powerful woman in Indian business.
