#Inappropriate: Meet the councillor who thinks it’s okay to poke fun at desperate migrants

The Conservative Party has launched an investigation after a party councillor from Surrey made a series of social media posts that appear to contain racist and anti-Muslim references.

Mike Kusneraitis, a ward councillor for Englefield Green in Surrey, caused outrage on Sunday when he posted a picture of group of naked women on a boat on his Facebook page with the caption, “If Carlsberg did Illegal Immigrants” – a reference to the unfolding refugee crisis in the Mediterranean and a popular ad campaign by brewer Carlsberg.

Kusneraitis is also said to have made other posts and comments on a local private residents’ Facebook group in July and August.

The posts have since been taken down while Kusneraitis has apologized, insisting he did not intend to offend anyone and was not a racist.

Chairman of the Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Association Peter Taylor told a local newspaper: “At the moment I have not got a comment to make because I’ve only just seen it [the images]. I need to consult with people.”

The Islamic Welfare Association of West Surrey (IWAWS) has also reportedly invited Kusneraitis to its next “Meet Your Muslim Meeting” on September 19.
