Scores of people across American have expressed outrage after US media outlets largely ignored the “execution-style” murder of three innocent Arab-Americans on a university campus in North Carolina on Tuesday.
University of North Carolina students Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his 21-year-old wife Yusor Mohammad and Mrs Mohammed’s sister Razan Abu Salha, 19, were killed inside their apartment in the quiet neighbourhood of Chapel Hill.
Local media outlets say all three were shot in the head.
The gunmen, identified as 46-year-old Craig Stephen Hicks, has turned himself into police.
One local newspaper reported that Mr Barakat was a dental student at the University and volunteered with a charity providing emergency dental care to children in Palestine.
Whilst the shooting has received extensive coverage in the local media, national outlets such as CNN, NBC, Fox and other networks have largely ignored the story.
Scores of people, including British author Richard Dawkins, TV star Adil Ray and filmmaker Hammad Khan have slammed the lack of condemnation and media indifference to the story.
Others have called for public demonstrations like the ones that followed the Charlie Hebdo killings in Paris.
