A young British Pakistani woman has gone into hiding with the help of police and social services after her father threatened to kill her because she had become “Westernized”, a court has been told.
The unnamed woman – a university student – alleges that her father had threatened to kill her because her parents didn’t like her wearing leggings because they were “Western clothing”.
Fearing for her life, the woman is said to have called the police when her parents were out and has been moved to a secure, confidential address.
Details of the case emerged on Wednesday at a hearing in the Family Division of the High Court in London.
Lawyers for the woman told the court that the threats against her life had been triggered after her parents discovered she had a boyfriend in Pakistan.
Mr Justice Hayden was told that there were fears the woman would be made to marry “the son of a family friend”, and he made a forced marriage protection order.
