One of Bollywood’s hottest young actors, Shahid Kapoor, has been officially unveiled as a judge on India’s version of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The actor replaces veteran actress Madhuri Dixit on the 8th season of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ on Colors TV.
Colors CEO Raj Nayak took to Twitter on Monday to announce Shahid’s entry.
“Colors welcomes the King of dance and actor par excellence @shahidkapoor to #JhalakDikhlaJaa Coming soon #YouthIcon,” he tweeted.
The show is a natural fit for the 34-year-old actor.
While he has won plaudits for his roles in films such as ‘Haider’, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Jab We Met’ but began his career as a student of well-known dance choreographer Shiamak Davar.
It will be Kapoor’s first stint on a reality show – a path that many of Bollywood’s leading actors, including such mega-stars as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan – are taking.
Earlier, Dixit, who was associated with the show for last three seasons, announced her departure in a statement saying she opted out of the show “to concentrate on another project” with the channel.
This year’s edition of “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” will feature celebrities like Shamita Shetty, Raftaar, Vivian Dsena, Radhika Madan, Kavita Kaushik, Sanaya Irani, Deepika Samson, Ashish Chowdhry, Mohit Malik, Scarlett Mellish Wilson and Faisal Khan.
The show will be on UK TV in July.
