The late Yash Chopra’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ has entered the US Box Office top 10, in a first for a Bollywood movie.
The film entered at number 8 in its first weekend of release, taking in $1.3 million, in a list dominated by the likes of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’, the latest James Bond flick ‘Skyfall’ and the Steven Spielberg biopic ‘Lincoln’.
Since its release on November 13, the film has grossed more than $16 million in the domestic market and nearly $8 million overseas and has been moving rapidly up the all-time Bollywood box office charts.
The film stars Shah Rukh, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma and was the final directorial venture by the legendary director of Bollywood romances, Yash Chopra, who passed away days before the film’s premier in Mumbai.
The 3-hour long Bollywood epic has been roundly panned by critics but audiences have lapped up what some commentators have described as Yash Chopra’s most extravagant film, in a career pock-marked by luscious productions, replete with stunning locations, a beautiful soundtrack and a sweeping romance.
