London Met given permission to appeal UKBA ban

London Metropolitan University has won the right to a judicial review of a decision by the UK Border Agency to ban the university from enrolling international students.

London Met’s ‘Highly Trusted Status’ was revoked last month after the UKBA investigation revealed ‘serious failings’ in the University’s recruitment process for overseas students.

More than 2600 international students were given 60 days to find alternative universities or face deportation.

The High Court in London however, said the ban should be lifted in the interest of fairness, paving the way for the University to appeal the UKBA’s decision.

Judges also allowed existing international students and those who are due to begin their courses to continue, pending a resolution of the issue.

More to follow.
