No evidence against Pak blasphemy girl – Police

Police in Islamabad have admitted there is no evidence against a young Christian girl accused of blasphemy for burning pages of the Koran.

The startling revelation was made during a court hearing on Saturday in the Pakistani capital.

The court also heard that there was evidence to suggest that an Imam of a Mosque in Rimsha Masih’s neighbourhood had tampered with evidence.

Masih – who’s said to be between 14 and 16 and suffering from a mental disability – was taken into police custody in July in the impoverished Mehrabadi district of Islamabad.

She had been beaten by a mob who alleged Masih was seen burning pages torn from a Koran.

The incident led to dozens of Christian families fleeing the area fearing violence.

She was released on bail earlier this month after witnesses said they had seen the local Imam place Koranic pages inside a bag of ashes Rimsha was carrying.
