The first images have emerged of acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Dasrath Manjhi – the man who moved a mountain for love.
Known as the ‘Mountain Man’, Manjjhi was a poor labourer from Bihar who carved a path through a mountain using the barest of tools and his hands so that his village could have easier access to medical care, after his wife Falguni died from a lack of care in 1959.
Directed by Ketan Mehta, the film is set in 1960, soon after Falguni’s death when Manjhi takes to the mountain as a way of dealing with his grief.
Fans of Siddiqui have been eagerly awaiting the actor’s latest incarnation – in between his blink-and-you’ll-miss appearances in blockbusters such as ‘Kick’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’.
‘Manjhi – Mountain Man’ is a welcome return to Siddiqui’s much-loved roots, playing ordinary men doing extraordinary things.
