OVER 20 FILMS TO BE SCREENED ACROSS FOUR CITIES ~ IIFA JOINS FORCES WITH UNEP TO BATTLE GLOBAL WARMING
The first feature film from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s own production house has been chosen as the opening film of the 12th Videocon IIFA Film Festival, which gets underway in Toronto next month. “Chillar House” was produced by Salman Khan Being Human productions and is one of 20 films that will be screened exclusively at the International Indian Film Academy awards ceremony, the most global and doubtless most glamorous Bollywood festival of all.
The film is a touching comedy about a group of 7 kids from the myriad social spectrums of the teeming megalopolis of Mumbai who overcome the odds and social constraints to aid a friend. Speaking of his debut production, Khan commented, “Chillar Party is very close to my heart, the concept appealed to me and the children’s performances were endearing. This is the first film under SKBH Productions and we felt there was no better place to screen the movie than at the IIFA Film Festival. For me, IIFA is home-grounds and it can’t get bigger than IIFA in Toronto.”
IIFA 2011 – three days of high-octane entertainment – gets underway this Friday featuring the biggest stars of Bollywood and the biggest Indian blockbusters; IIFA 2011 will not only be a forum for the latest releases from Bollywood but also some of the most iconic films from the Indian Film Industry including the likes of ‘Rang de Basanti’ and ‘Jodha Akhbar’.
And as is fashionable in this day and age, IIFA has also teamed up with the United Nations Environment Program to mark World Environment Day which coincides with the Festival. Among the stars who have pledged their support to the joint initiative is Priyanka Chopra who has vowed to plant one tree for every activity registered in her name.
