British-Bangladeshi Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain claims she was racially abused by a man who refused to sit next to her on a train.
Ms Hussain, who won the BBC’s Great British Bake Off in 2015, took to her Twitter account on Thursday, saying: “A man refused to sit next to me on the train today. ‘I ain’t sitting near a Muslim’, he said. His ignorance is his own ruin”.
Ms Hussain, who was born in Luton to Bangladeshi parents, has suffered racist abuse in the past and has said that such abuse had become “part of my life now”.
Weeks Soon after winning the Bake Off crown in a public vote, she said she was asked on a train “Are you the Paki on the not so British bake off?”
The 31-year-old has said that she would never retaliate as there is “dignity in silence” as she didn’t want her children to have a “negative” attitude to living in the UK.
