#TablesTurned: Aamir Khan lodges complaint after corruption allegations against Satyamev Jayate

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has built a reputation for highlighting corruption in India through his advocacy show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and now the actor seems to be on the receiving end of corruption allegations.

The 48-year-old ‘Talaash’ star has filed a police complaint after allegations appeared on a Facebook group page that the actor has been diverting money raised from his hit TV show to finance the building of mosques and fund Muslim youth organizations.

The Facebook group claimed that the funds were being diverted to the Humanity Trust, a relatively unknown Muslim group which assists impoverished Muslim youth.

Khan however, denied the allegations, saying that he was associated with another organization, also called Humanity Trust, which operates a charity hospital in West Bengal.

Writing on his Facebook page, the actor said: “False and malicious messages are circulating through various electronic media. including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks, alleging that donations are being sought in my television program ‘Satyamev Jayate’ Season 2, in relation to an entity by the name of Humanity Trust, which is claimed to be working in the field of Masjid Construction Assistance and placement assistance for Islamic youngsters. This is entirely false.

“I would like to clarify that ‘Satyamev Jayate’, in Season 1 was associated with Humanity Trust, Hanspukur, West Bengal, a charitable hospital run by Ajoy Mistry and his mother Subhashini Mistry.  Humanity Trust, Hanspukur, West Bengal, is doing excellent work in the field of health care and provides free medical facilities to the poor. More information can be found on their website www.humanityhospital.org.”

Khan on Saturday met with high ranking officials from the Mumbai Police Department to lodge his complaint and received assurances of “swift action”, intriguingly enough days after a ‘Satyamev Jayate’ episode which examined corruption and inefficiency in the Indian Police Service (IPS).
