#Urainge: Watch as Ali Zafar and Pakistan’s biggest artists pay tribute to Peshawar victims

The horrific massacre of nearly 145 people - 133 of them children - by terrorists at a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar in December caused widespread shock.

Now some of the biggest names in Pakistani culture have come together to record a musical tribute to the victims of the 16 December attack, led by singer, songwriter and film star Ali Zafar.

The song is titled 'Urainge' ('We Will Fly') and the video features some 40 leading Pakistani singers, actors, musicians and artists including Fawad Khan, Humaima Malik alongside Zafar.

Zafar told the BBC World Service that it had taken some time for him to come to terms with the feelings of shock, anger and disappointment he felt soon after the attacks.

"There were so many emotions that at that time I could not put into words.  But when I started recording the song it all just came out", Zafar says.

He adds that the message of the song is to tell those mothers who lost their children that Pakistan stands in solidarity with them.

"We want a Pakistan that's progressive, tolerant, prioritizes education and stands strong against terrorism", Zafar continued.

"Pakistan needs to put its house together.  We need to redefine our policies, admit to our blunders and act together as one", he added.

All proceeds from the song's downloads will go to The Citizen's Foundation in Pakistan which is building schools across the country in memory of those children killed in Peshawar.

"Urainge us aasman mein;

(We’ll fly in such a sky)

Rahainge aisay jahaan mein;

(live in such a world)

Jahaan dard ka koi maara na ho;

(where no one quivers in pain)

Akaila na ho be-sahaara na ho;

( no one is lonely or left alone)

koi maa say bichara dulaara no ho;

(no mother would live without her child)

siva ishq kay koi chaara na ho;

(nothing to choose from than love)"
