A British Tamil cricketer has died after being hit in the chest by a ball.
Bavalan Pathmanathan, 24, was batting for Manipay Parish SC in division three of the British Tamil League in Surrey this weekend when he suffered the blow to his chest.
Air ambulance doctors tried to save Mr Pathmanathan but he later died from his injuries.
“Our cricketer Bavalan Pathmanathan is no longer with us,” Manipay Parish SC said in a statement.
“He was hit by the ball on his chest while batting. Our club is totally shocked by his death at this young age.”
Surrey County Cricket Club Chief Executive Richard Gould said: “Everyone at the club has been deeply saddened to learn of Bavalan’s death and would like to extend their sympathies to his family, friends and everyone who knew him from within the community of cricket.”
