A “respected” Indian father stabbed his wife and two daughters to death before hanging himself in a brutal murder-suicide just days after celebrating Diwali, reports say.
Jitendra Lad, 49, is believed to have murdered wife Diskha, 44, and their daughters, Trisha, 19, and Nisha, 16, the day after Diwali and spent the weekend alone inside the family home in Clayton near Bradford before taking his life on Monday 27 October, according to investigators.
The motive for the killings remains unknown.
Police discovered all four bodies inside the family’s four-bedroom house after a worried neighbour, who had not seen the family since Friday, called emergency services.
Post mortem examinations have reportedly confirmed that Mrs Lad and her daughters died days before the discovery of their remains whilst Mr Lad died on Monday.
The tragic deaths have shocked the close-knit community.
Neighbours have described Mr Lad as a “protective” father and the family as the “nicest in the world”. Both parents were employed by the local council whilst Trisha was a biochemistry student at the University of Leeds.
Youngest daughter Nisha was at sixth form.
The Lads had married in Bradford 23 years ago and had been popular in the local community. Neighbours reported seeing the family on Friday morning as they made their way to work and school.
Mr Lad’s parents, who live close by, are reportedly being comforted by relatives and specialist police officers as investigations continue.
West Yorkshire Police have also confirmed that they are not looking for any other persons in relation to the killings.
