An India-born executive has been placed in charge of some of Google Inc’s fastest growing products in a move by the search engine giant’s CEO Larry Page.
Sundar Pichai, who currently oversees Google’s Chrome division, has been put in charge of products including maps, Google+, commerce as well as the company’s core services of search and advertising which generate a bulk of the company’s revenues.
Chennai-born Pichai is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, West Bengal as well as Stanford University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
The 42-year-old has risen rapidly through the Google ranks since joining the company a decade ago and many industry experts have touted him as a potential CEO of the $400 billion tech giant.
In addition to his new duties, Pichai will continue to lead Google’s Android and Chrome software operating systems as well as Google’s Apps business.
