He may have recently split up with his long-term girlfriend Frieda Pinto but Dev Patel doesn’t seem to be dwelling too much on his doubtless injured heart, if his dance moves in his latest film role are anything go by.
And, it appears, Patel’s having a better time of it with his on-screen work as well.
The London-born actor returns as the good-natured if over-eager hotel owner Sonny Kapoor in the sequel to the 2012 smash hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, appropriately, if unimaginatively titled The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
The original was anything but unimaginative, not least given the magnificent talent that was on display – the cast included British veterans Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Tom Wilkinson and Ronald Pickup.
The film told the story of how this eclectic group of pensioners decamp to India in search of a better retirement.
Their bewilderment at India’s unique brand of chaos is only exacerbated when they find the ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ to be a dump, its’ condition made only marginally better by the charming Sonny and the inevitable journey of self-discovery that all foreigners go through in India, in particular those of a certain vintage.
In the sequel, Sonny, together with Muriel (Dame Maggie) have transformed the Hotel and are set to welcome some new guests.
Enter the silver-haired and magnificently aging Richard Gere to significantly ramp up the romance quotient.
Sonny meanwhile is also busy preparing for his imminent marriage to the love of his life Sunaina (Tena Desai).
All indications are that it’s going to be another thoroughly enjoyable romp.
‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ is in UK cinemas 26 February 2015.
